Central Sophistication

Situated in the very heart of Franschhoek is an unassumingly quaint, country hamlet bursting with sophisticated surprises. Le Quartier Français is for discerning foodies and wanderers who want to experience all the breath-taking village and its people have to offer.
The earliest segment of the establishment was bought by Susan Huxter in 1989. 26 years later it is still owned and run by the same powerhouse of a woman, whose energetic nature and determination has carved out the wonder that today is Le Quartier Français. Her sensational sense of style and charisma is felt throughout as all the design, decoration extra niceties are Huxter’s doing.

Cape Provençal meets French Chic as the angelic architecture stands tall above the vibrant rose, daisy and lavender bushes. White verandas draped with “broekie” lace and actual streetlamps light up the cobbled paths providing the feeling of a time gone by. From either the terracotta tiled, Victorian courtyard or the lovely Mediterranean pool you are spoilt by sensational views of the Franschhoek Mountains. The secret garden feel is enhanced by the exquisite rabbit statues, soft sputtering fountains and big bright cushions dotted around the lawn.

Awesome Accommodation

Complete with 21 suites of four categories, from the more modest Auberge Rooms to the four state-of-the-art “Four Quarters” suites, this luxury treasure has something for everyone. Upstairs suites offer furnished rooftop balconies and downstairs suites offer spacious patios or gardens. Long Serving Staff

The staff at Le Quartier Français are all part of the family and have been there for years. They represent the warmth and sophistication of the hotel with a little added African flair. They pride themselves in everything they do and will go to the ends of the earth for any of their guests. They even go as far as tailor-making a guest’s entire stay depending on whether they want a foodie journey, wine tasting wander or simply a romantic weekend away. Leave it to them, sit back, relax and allow yourself to enjoy the adventure that comes your way.

Quirky Facilities

wetu-lequart-room-12You don’t have to go far though, as within the borders of La Quartier Français there is so much to keep you busy. Catch some warm African sunshine while propped up on an over-sized cushion on a lovely lounger by the pool, take a visit to the reading room for some quiet time, pop out to the street side terrace for a sneaky cocktail or craft beer while watching the classy folk of Franschhoek walking past. Or pop in to B Gorgeous for some light-hearted shopping and a magnificent manicure, buy some top-of-the-range kitchenware at Le Creuset (the first of its kind in South Africa,) and later visit the private 30 seater cinema for the latest contemporary film.

Topping the Tops with Food

Introducing, “The Tasting Room” a world-class culinary extravaganza like you have never experienced before. Highly acclaimed chef, Margot Janse is excellent at having fun with her profession, her unique 8 course, contemporary African inspired tasting menu promises only to astonish and amaze. On entering, you are immediately transported, the blues, teals and reds wash over you and you are drawn to the statement rope installation of Table Mountain. Brutal simplicity, each place is set with only a small black plate and a glass retaining the air of mystery for as long as possible. You will feel as though you have a relationship with each dish as they are so unexpected and inviting packed with stimulating flavour and texture combinations. Perhaps it’s the signature double baked beetroot and rocket soufflé or the poached salmon trout that will tickle your fancy, whatever is on the menu you are in for a magical affair. Always make sure you book for the restaurant well in advance as it is extremely popular and always allow almost four hours to fully appreciate the experience.
