Founders Camp
LondoloziLondolozi Founders Camp is one of Londolozi’s five intimate camps, set under a lush riverine canopy of Jackalberry trees and dotted along the banks of the Sand River. The Sand River winds a life force through the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve which neighbours South Africa’s world renowned Kruger National Park. Nestled at the heart of the Sabi Sand Reserve lies Londolozi whose pristine river frontage positioning affords it an abundance of wildlife which has made Londolozi infamous for its incredible game viewing.
Founders Camp: Revered luxury
Between memorable sightings of the big five and intimate moments of storytelling around the campfire, the Founders Camp team offers its guests a tailor-made safari experience with a symbiosis between luxury and a home-away-from-home. Whether it is in the camp or out in the wilderness on safari, any guest at Founders Camp is treated like family.
The honoured
Founders Camp honours the two friends who first made embers from firewood in this exact location in 1926 when they discovered this piece of paradise after having bought the land, sight unseen, on auction in Johannesburg. Londolozi Founders Camp pays tribute to these founding friends and all the significant people that have contributed to Londolozi’s bold conservation ethic and passion for community development. Londolozi, derived from the Zulu word “to protect” symbolizes the dream to provide a sanctuary for all living things.
The Founders luxuries
Founders Camp’s ten superior chalets are each uniquely decorated to harness the landscape beyond the glass sliding doors, celebrating the astonishing views. Founders Camp’s textured style moulds smoothly into the luxury of each suite having indoor and outdoor showers, private plunge pools and generous minibars.
The rooms, although very privately situated, are a short distance from the main deck where lavish breakfast and lunch spreads will be served daily under the gentle care and smile of a butler assigned to meet all your dining needs. Evening meal locations might vary but what remains unchanged is the firefly light of hundreds of lanterns and moonlight bellows from far off creatures. Londolozi’s gastronomic experience has been called nothing short of a food safari and Founders Camp’s on-deck hand-picked wine collection makes for some unforgettable pairings from South Africa’s finest vineyards and a kitchen of extraordinary chefs.
Family retreats
The camp is ideal for families on safari and while adults take time out on the yoga deck or in the healing hands of the Londolozi Life masseuse therapists, the children can enjoy a myriad of activities run by the Cubs Den. They can be entrusted with teachers to master the skills of tree-climbing and the local trackers take great pride in passing on the art of tracking to inquisitive young minds. For the more active guest, an air-conditioned fitness room or an adventurous bush walk compliment the relaxation of bush life.
A spell bounding safari experience
Perhaps most memorable to guests is their time spent on their Land Rover out in the wilderness. Founders Camp’s khaki collection of knowledgeable guides and trackers will ensure that each dawn and dusk safari is filled with an interesting interpretation of the animals and landscapes.
The early morning drive doesn’t leave you sleepy for long as the bushveld awakens with haste to a new day. A coffee, tea and snack break along the way allows each guest to take in all the sights and sounds. Coming back to the camp to the wafts of fresh bread and pool loungers on a shady veranda make it tempting to lizard around in camp all day. But as the sun starts to slip silently, the bush comes alive once again and an evening safari, sundowners in tow, is the perfect serenade to a wholesome day at Founders Camp.
