Luxury in the Hills
Dithaba, perched high in the eastern Madikwe hills, consists of four sumptuously spacious and luxurious suites offering untrammelled views of the spectacular Madikwe wilderness.
The camp is ideal for whole families and close-knit friends who want to experience Africa in intimate private luxury. With its own multi-skilled private chef, Dithaba offers delicious cuisine from the legendary Madikwe Safari Lodge menu or bespoke banquets according to your tastes. Your exclusive butler will cater to your every service whim while a dedicated ranger and safari vehicle mean your exciting wilderness adventures can be tailored to suit whichever Madikwe gem you want to experience.
Children of all ages are welcome at Dithaba if you choose to the book all four suites. Their African bush entertainment is catered for at the Madikwe Safari Lodge Eco-House where eager young minds are enthralled by the games and fascinating nature activities offered by our patient and specialised rangers
The exclusive suites
Each of the four sumptuous suites at Dithaba boasts a lounge with a fireplace where you can sip great South African red wine or quaff fine brandy while the winter evenings unfold through the glass doors. In summer, you can find respite from the heat in the flawless clarity of the private plunge pool or sprawl on a soft sofa in the ultimate comfort of the outdoor lounge, ideally positioned to take advantage of the African views extending endlessly into the distance.
Dithaba is an excellent venue for plush intimate wedding parties although larger weddings are equally achievable when combined with the other two magnificent Madikwe Safari Lodge camps.
If you need a little help to relax, one of the multi-skilled therapists will come to your suite and treat your tired body, mind and soul to a full body, massage, a facial or reflexology treatment.
Wilderness on the edge of the Kalahari
The Madikwe Game Reserve is 75 000ha of incredible topographic, vegetation and faunal diversity. From the Dwarsberg Mountains in the south, peaked by the blood red Brandwacht; north over the undulating golden woodlands where black and white rhino find refuge; over the Tweedepoort escarpment and into the rolling savannahs – this is classic African big sky country where plains game – zebra, springbok, wildebeest – graze, one eye always watching for lion, cheetah or wild dog. The west of the reserve is bounded by the perennial Marico River – a rich green vein of life in this semi-arid vastness while the eastern reaches blend into the boundless Kalahari Desert.
The highly-trained rangers of Madikwe Safari Lodge will show you the riches of this wilderness wonderland on game drive in the mornings and at night. If you like, you can also choose to discover some of the smaller inhabitants – insects, birds, flowers – on foot. With your ranger, you could also piece together the story told by the tracks and signs left by Madikwe’s myriad creatures.
Cuisine suspended from the Milky Way
The intimate stone clad boma with a crackling fire creates the atmosphere for al fresco dinners, the sounds of Africa – lions, frogs, insects and hyaena – provide the best possible musical back drop to your delicious meals.
On colder nights, you can eat in the indoor dining room with its glowing fire and the glass walls giving a view out over the crisp winter African skies and bush below.
If you would like a more intimate dining experience, then you can feast on your suite deck, softly lit by lanterns, the elevation of Dithaba making you feel as though you are suspended from the billions of stars sprayed overhead.
