Serengeti Under Canvas
TanzaniaSet somewhere in the vast Serengeti in hot pursuit of the massive herd so f the Great Migration is this unbelievably luxurious semi-permanent camp. It is the absolute ultimate in true bush immersion and wild African adventure, your very own wildlife haven set up in only the very best part of the Serengeti for that particular time of year. Escape from the real world entirely, put your feet up and relax while sharing Africa’s most famous wildlife area with its wildlife as intimately as possible.
Mobile, seamlessly integrated with nature
“The best thing about it,” says our personal butler, David, “ is that you can never get bored. We move 5 times a year to discover a lovely new area and section of the endless Serengeti. It’s always so exciting and we love our camp very much.”
At the time we visited the camp was in Seronera in the Western Serengeti only metres away from the early herds of the migration. In amongst a clump of acacias, a stone’s throw from the open, golden plains you sit eating your breakfast as a lone wildebeest wanders past in front of you. With no barriers between you and the nature around you, your heart slows down to its pace, your mind relaxes, it is surreal, authentic and overwhelmingly peaceful. With no boundaries at all, wherever you are in the camp the essence of the African bush is with you.
Spot lilac breasted rollers, lapwings and secretary birds on the short walk to your suite. Lie back and listen, hold your breath for a second and feel the comfort of a whole world going on without you, telling its story one chirp, song, snort, trumpet or alarm call at a time.
A wild extravagance of relaxation
It is hard to believe that in such a wild setting, such unprecedented luxury exists. What is even more difficult to comprehend is that the camp is semi-permanent as it’s innovatively and expertly set up with not one detail missing. You literally arrive, no gates, no walls and non fences. You walk off the grass and onto a carpet within decadent luxury lounge suite, sitting out in the middle of nowhere underneath the canopies of the flat topped acacias. Beyond that is the central living area complete with exquisite sofas, brightly coloured throw pillows, crystal glassware, silver serving trays, a comprehensive bar, impressive wine collection, solitaire, chess and so much more. Everything you heart desires, all in calm natural colours so as to seamlessly blend with the magnificene of the African bush outside. There are two camps with nine luxury suites each and each suite boasts oversized, comfortable beds, mohair blankets, double bucket showers and comes with your very own private butler.
The friendliest staff and the definitive African hospitality
As always with andBeyond the service is phenomal and the staff, genuine, caring and passionate. Wake up to the sound of your private butler knocking, armed with steaming hot coffee and biscuits, as you see the first light hit the horizon. Game drives are interesting, insightful as your guide shares stories of each creature and each area. A delicious buffet breakfast welcomes you back, so colourful and bright in contrast to the golden hues of the savannah you sit upon. The food is fresh, delicious and prepared with great care. In the evening sit by the campfire and chat to the guides as the ever smiling waitors refresh your drinks and offer you scrumptious bites. Dine outside, under a starlit African sky as the lanterns around you flitter, the lions roar, the hyenas call and the excitement of the day’s adventure engulfs you.
